The Dragons Egg by =werechu:iconwerechu:

THE DRAGON EGG *Collab*

The two men walked in the room, immediately followed by their lawyer. They all sat down in front of the table, the lawyer on one side and the two men on the other. The lawyer carefully placed his bag on the table, and took out a bunch of papers. He coughed to get the other two’s attention. “So...are we ready?”

“Yes, I’m ready.” One of the two, a man in his early 20’s, spoke.

The other man, probably in his 40’s, nodded. “Just hurry up and read the testament, I don’t have all day”

“Have patience.” The younger one spoke. “The man’s doing his job, you can’t rush him on that.”

The other snorted. “Alright...it’s your house after all...please mister, continue”

The lawyer coughed a few more times. “So...today we are sitting here to read the testament of Mister Roy Mandson, who passed away three weeks ago, on September 13th 2010. Two people have been called here: his only son” he said as he turned to the younger one. “And his second brother” he said as he eyed the older man.

The son sat there silently, listening on. Looking at the brother, it was obvious that he was restless, as his fingers were twitching about against his leg.

The Lawyer paused a few seconds, and continued. “I will now read Mister Mandson’s last wishes: to my second brother Austin, who as always been responsible and careful in everything he did, always trying to do the right thing no matter what...I leave my entire state of two million dollars and my mansion in the countryside”

“Wow, lucky you” The young teen smirked to him. “You’ve had your eye on that for quite some time, haven’t you not?”

The lawyer coughed. “And to my only son Peter, who always supported me in the time of need, and helped through the most difficult decisions..I leave my most precious belongings”. The lawyer turned around, grabbed a large box from a chest, and put it on the table.

”Wow, this is mine?” His eyes widened as he stared at the box. “I wonder what it could contain?”

Austin sighed, and checked his clock. “Well, I’ll be late for my appointment...enjoy whatever that box contains, which won’t be much, because I already got all the money and the mansion” he sighed.

”Try not to blow all the money at once.” He smirked. “I know how you can get, so just be careful with it.”

”I don’t need you to tell me what to do” he smiled. “And besides...what do you know about money anyway? You never had much, and you never will...because unlike me, you don’t seem to grasp the basics of money making, which is finding a job”

”I just haven’t found the right job yet. Nor have I been spoiled all my life like you. I’ve had to work for everything I wanted, and in the end, it was worth it knowing all the hard work I put into things.” Peter said as he went towards the box, running a hand over it. “Besides which, you spend your money as quickly as you earn it. Then again I can’t blame you because you’ve got a high paying job, but you should keep SOMETHING saved for your future. You may never know when something will happen which could put you out of a job.”

He laughed. “The future doesn’t hold surprises, it is and it will always be the same. And by the way...why working hard to get something when you can get it the easy way? Money rule the world, there is nothing you cannot get with money, not even happiness...and with that said, I’ll leave you and your box...bye”. And with that said, he left the room, dropping a coin on the table.

Peter just sighed as Austin left the room. “It’s only false happiness.....even if you had all the money in the world, it wouldn’t keep you happy for long... Stuff like money only corrupts your mind and heart. It’s a curse...”

The Lawyer coughed. “I’ll leave now, I got another client”. And he also stood up and left, leaving Peter alone with the box.

”Thank you for your time.” He said to the lawyer as he picked up the box, along with the coin that had been left behind by the brother.

He stopped for a second, thinking. He smiled, and threw the coin in the air, catching it right after. He looked at it, and giggled. “Tail...something good will happen”

With a smile, he took the box back to his bedroom and set it down upon the bed. He gently lifted up the lid of it, eager to see what was inside of it. He was expecting anything amazing, since the testament said that the box contained his father’s most precious belonging, but to his surprise...there wasn’t anything he would have ever expected to see: a giant blue egg, almost the size of his torso.

”Woah.....” He looked at it in surprise. “That’s nuts....I’d hate to think of the chicken that laid this thing!” He joked to himself.

But he knew that there was no way a chicken would have laid that thing, not only for the size, but also...eggs aren’t supposed to be blue, and with that kind of rough texture. Also...the box was pretty light despite the big egg inside it.

He laid the box down on its side slowly and pulled the box away, revealing the full size of the egg in all it’s glory. “There’s only two creatures I can think of that could have laid this......the first one’s been extinct for over 65 million years, so that ones ruled out....and the other...uh? What's that?”

There was a small note inside the box. It was written in bold black leather with an ink pen. It read: “The simplest of objects can hide the greatest of wonders”

”Really now?” He smiled as he read it. “I wonder what it could be....I’d crack it open....but if something’s living inside, it could kill it. The more natural way would be to wait for it to hatch...” He said, running a hand across it. “Patience is a virtue after all.”

The egg felt very cold to the touch...maybe a little too cold, because when his hand made contact with the shell, it felt like his veins were freezing in the inside. He slowly lifted the hand, slightly confused.

He pulled his hand back. “What was that about? Felt like someone injected my arm with liquid nitrogen...” He shook his arm about, getting the feeling to return to it.

The veins in his arms were now a deep blue for some odd reasons, as if his bloody was also blue. Lost in thoughts, Peter scratched his left arm to check, and surely enough...a shiny blueish blood started dripping from the small cut he made.

”What in the name of...?” He looked on in wonder at the blood. Was there something on that egg that was doing this?

As a small drop of blood fell on the floor, he looked down. The coin his brother dropped was there...tail side. Peter picked it up, suddenly realising something.

”Tails....something good will happen....” He recalled himself saying earlier. “Does this mean that...”

He checked his hand again. Where his hand came in contact with the egg...some small shiny blue scales were growing. He checked his other hand, and he noticed the same thing happening there as well.

”Scales......real scales?” He gently ran a hand against them.

They did feel like real scales, kind of like the ones on his old pet iguana, only a little smoother and more pleasant to the touch. He noticed the scales were slowly spreading all over his hands, eventually starting to grow on his arms as well.

He watched on in wonder as the scales moved up his arms. As they did, he could feel the muscles in his arms swell and grow, new strength beginning to fill him. “Am I turning into some sort of reptile....” He said to himself, thinking it over.

“No... It couldn’t be...” he whispered.

A quick look at the egg, the note in the box, the coin...and the poster that was on his wall, and he finally realised. He slowly stepped in front of the poster and ran his hand on the blue coloured dragon that was drawn on it. He smiled, turning around.

”A dragon....I’m...becoming a REAL dragon....” His smile widened as the full extent of the situation dawned on him. He felt like screaming in happiness, but he kept calm and cool about it, looking at his body as it was slowly altering.

As the scales finished covering his arms, he felt the muscles there growing bigger, gaining more strength and power. His hands also went through some changes, with one finger getting sucked inside his hand, and the other growing a little longer and thicker. His hands also elongated a little, probably adapting for four legs movements. And eventually the tip of his fingers ripped open, long white claws slowly growing there.

He tested the claws against the wall. He didn’t even apply any pressure to it, and he left an indent that was 5 inches deep. “Amazing!” He grinned to himself. “Imagine if Austin saw this, he would freak out!”

The moment he said that, someone knocked at the door, and Austin’s voice could be heard. “Hey Peter! I think I left my keys somewhere in your living room...can I come in?”. That was a very inappropriate moment, since Peter got two extremely muscled dragon arms sticking out of his shoulder, which were also growing and ripping the sleeves of his shirt.

For a moment, he pondered what to do, should he let him in or should he turn him away. Then he remembered the situation earlier, with Austin claiming that nothing much was left for him in that box, and a big smile crossed his face. “Oh sure, you can come in...”

He quickly ran in the living room, and grabbed the keys that were on the table. “There they are, thankfully I...”. While he was talking, Peter felt a sharp pain in his ribcage, as he felt some of the ribs extending and growing.

”Ggg!” He let out a groan as he clutched his chest with his now clawed hand, the deadly talons gleaming in the light. ”Why couldn’t this have been painless...” Peter said. “But no gain without pain...”

Austin walked in front of stairs that lead to Peter's bedroom. “Is everything alright? I hear weird noises”

”Oh no, I'm fine....I’ve never felt better than ever...” He grinned. “I definitely feel a lot better than you anyway, having all that money spoiling you!” He said in a brave tone.

He sighed. “Yeah sure...if you want to prove me that money isn't power, then tell me about something that you cannot obtain with money...come on, I dare you” he laughed.

”Oh I know something that has a lot more power than money....” He said, a growl escaping from his throat with those words. “And I’m not afraid to show you it!”

A loud crack could be heard the instant he said that. Peter fell on all fours, his legs starting to hurt like hell. His joints suddenly reversed themselves, the bones elongating and swelling along with the muscles in his legs. His trousers ripped into shreds and felt on the floor because of it.

At the same time, his feet growth longer and larger, big claws growing there just like in his hands...but only three of them this time. A longer and sharper claws also erupted from his talon, which raised up a little bit, changing his overall body balance. The scales covered his legs as that happened.

He let out a scream of pain as his bones reconfigured, which became twisted halfway, turning into a blood curdling roar. “Well.....are you gonna come to me....or will I have to come to you....” He said with another growl, smiling to himself, envisioning the look on Austin's face when he saw what was happening to Peter.

Austin laughed. “Oh god...someone already tried fooling me with the fake werewolf trick...sorry, not falling into that. See you around”. And with that said he turned his back at the stairs and walked back to the entrance.

”I always knew you were a coward deep down inside.....you must feel scared without your money around you!” Peter mocked. He would have never had the bravery to have said this as a human, but as he was half way through turning into a powerful dragon, he could say whatever he want. Austin stopped just as he was about to leave.

“And how can I be a werewolf when it’s only gone lunchtime and the suns still up, hmm?” He teased more.

Austin curled his hand into a fist and turned back towards the stairs ”Look...this is getting really personal, and unless you have something...”.

Before he could finish, Peter felt another sharp pain right in his shoulders, which suddenly started splitting into two. His shirt was ripped away from his body as a new pair of arms emerged, small hands with very long fingers at the end. A membrane eventually formed in between those fingers, turning those arms into a full sized pair of draconic wings.

He let out another scream of pain, but this time it came out as a full blown roar that shook the house to it’s foundations. “Unless I what?!” He challenged him. “Do you think you can scare me that easily, human?”

Austin fell on the floor in surprise this time. “Dammit, knock it off...I almost had a heart attack!”

”Than that means you’re afraid....” Peter grinned wide. “Now show yourself to me, or I’ll make my way to you!”

Peter tried stepping to the door, but another loud crack indicated that something else was happening. He grinned as he felt like something was pulling his tailbone. With several cracks and pops, a long tail emerged from his back, ripping his pants. It kept growing longer and longer, until it was almost as long as his body. A few small spikes also started growing on the tail and on his back.

It thrashed against the floor eagerly, leaving large dents in the floorboards. “Last chance! Come up here now, or I’ll come down to you, and it WON’T be pretty!” He growled.

Justin started walking up the stairs. “If you show up with a crazy mask I’ll break your nose, you have been warned”.

While he said that, Peter’s body started growing again, the scales finally covering every part of his body. His neck started elongating, his eyes changing to a shiny red as the changes reached his head.

”Try and I’ll do more than that, I'll break your spine!” He growled darkly as his pupils pulled into thin slits. He raised himself up on all fours, barely contained in the room now, the egg behind him on the bed.

His face pushed out, forming a long reptilian muzzle. His hairs fell off, replaced by a few long spikes, and two massive horns. His ears got longer and pointed, turning a little fin-like. His tongue grow longer and thinner, splitting into two at tip, becoming forked. His teeth sharpened and elongated, turning into sharp fangs. And finally, his brain swelled and got filled with a series of knowledges of his new body, along with other stuff that no one else knows...something that only dragons know.

He growled as a fire started burning inside his lungs...a new dragon has come to light.

He tore a hole through the roof with his tail, throwing back his head and letting loose a dominating roar as fire erupted from his fanged maw, shot through the hole in the roof and reaching towards the heavens.

“Time’sss almossst up....” He grinned

Justin was standing in front of the door when he said so. The door fell flat on the floor as he looked up and saw the giant dragon firing his blue flame into the sky.

He gulped. “Well...holy shit...”

”What’s wrong? Are you not happy to sssee me?” He hissed mockingly, extending his claws a little.

He let out a short meep, before falling on his knees, and dropping on the floor, unconscious.

”Aww....no fun....” He chuckled, poking his unconscious body with a claw. He tried to shift his body around, but couldn't do so without totally destroying the room, the walls and ceiling collapsing around him as his body was exposed to the outside world, the light of the sun gleaming off his sapphire scales.

The light seemed to hit the egg as well, as it started shining like a small crystal. Peter turned around to look at it, and to his surprise...there was a small crack on it.

”Wha...” He looked at it. “How could this have happened.....I never hit it, nor did I see anything fall on it.....unless.....” He began to smile. “It’s...”

The crack got larger and larger, as the tip of a small tail seemed to emerge from the egg. A low growling noise could be heard coming from inside the egg.

”It’s hatching...” He said in awe as he lowered his head to look at it.

The egg started breaking into pieces as the small figure of a baby blue dragon could be seen, struggling to get free.

The dragon that was now peter tapped some of the egg away with his claws, giving the baby enough room to break free of it. He looked on at the hatching, a sense of pride and protectiveness filling him

The baby dragon eventually broke free of his prison, and jumped on the bed. It looked almost like a smaller version of Peter's dragon form,  only with smaller arms, bigger legs, and a thicker tail in proportion to his body, and two huge baby blue eyes that were just adorable.

”Awww.....” Peter smiled. “Hey there little fella...” He reached out his hand/paw slowly, and petted the hatchings head.

The baby let out a short sigh, pressing his head on Peters clawed hand. He looked at him with his big blue eyes, almost begging him to take him with him.

Peter smiled, a soft, purring sound leaving his mouth as he picked up the baby in his hands and held him close to his chest, nuzzling the baby's head. “Austin...this is something that money will never be able to buy....” He said, aimed at the unconscious man. “And it’s something I’ll never give up either...”

Peter looked down, and picked up the small coin near his massive feet. He looked at Austin, and dropped it on his unconscious form.

Peter giggled. “Head...bad luck.” He smirked. “You’ve got the money, and I’ve got something that you’ll never have.” He grinned, looking back at the baby. “I think we should find us both a new home, somewhere away from this city. All the houses around here are a bit of a depressing view...maybe somewhere in a forest or a mountain.....Hey. I know just the place. You ready to go?” He asked the baby.

The baby nodded, a smile appearing on his muzzle. He hugged him tight.

”Then hold on tight!” Peter grinned, giving his mighty wings a few test flaps. Within seconds, he was hovering over the partially destroyed house. “You continue living your life of false happiness and see where it takes you!” He roared down to Austin. “As for me....well I’ve said it to you several times, and now it truly has paid off!” He grinned. Releasing another torrent of sapphire flame into the sky, he flew off towards the mountains.

“You’re in good hands...” he whispered to the hatching. “We’ll get you to a nice cave where you can rest, and with all possibility, I’ll find you a mommy too.” He grinned.

…......

That day, a human was found unconscious in a destroyed house, talking about a giant monster having captured one of his family members. The man who lived in that house was never found. However...in the following months, people have reported multiple sightings of mysterious creatures flying above the mountains.

They first said they were two...then three...then four. Non one knew what was going on, and what was the connection between the destroyed house and the mysterious creatures in the mountains. Only one thing was found that no one could really explain: a box with a note written inside:

“The simplest of objects can hide the greatest of wonders”

I thought the ending was kind of funny; it's true though, it's always the simple things in life that do the most of anything.
